Spirit change me too!

Posted on August 14, 2020August 13, 2020 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 1 Samuel 9-10

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy.” (1 Samuel 10:6)
God chooses Saul to be His servant king, and gives him His Spirit to do this.
I am reminded of when Jesus was baptized by the Spirit after He was baptized (Luke 3:21-22).
As a result, Jesus too is filled with the Spirit to prophecy:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has
sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)

Both Saul and Jesus had the same calling, but the outcome is different.
Whereas Saul cannot resist the power of Satan and sin, Jesus does.
Jesus succeeds where Saul (and David, and everyone else) fails.
Jesus is our anointed king, we follow Him and His Spirit now lives in us.
We are anointed to rule with Him, like Him, and for Him – and not for ourselves.
“You will be changed into a different person.” (1 Samuel 10:6)
The Spirit changes us too, to be like Jesus, to be and to bring good news as well.
Yes, I am among the prophets (10:11), but am I following the Spirit of Jesus?
PRAYER
Lord, You have anointed me too. Change me by Your Spirit to be more like You. Help me to be and to bring good news to the world around me.

Saul had good beginnings – a faithful son – seeking his father’s donkeys; humble and shy to be in the limelight; he listened and followed Samuel’s instructions; he was blessed with the presence of the Spirit. He had a good start. Like seed on good soil. the important thing is the connection to the Spirit – the HS will help me to persevere.

    ‘But he held his peace.’
This verse reminds me of another text – ‘If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone’ from Romans. As a servant of the King, in my daily living for Him, others need to see Christ Jesus living in me by my words and deeds. And that is only a possibility through the guiding of His Spirit.

    Spirit of the Living God
    Fall fresh on me
    Spirit of the Living God
    Fall fresh on me
    Melt me mold me
    Fill me use me
    Spirit of the Living God
    Fall fresh on me
