One wish to rule them all!

Posted on April 2, 2020April 1, 2020 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 20:29-34

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“What do you want me to do for you?” (Matthew 20:32)
As a child, I recall Bill Lawrence on Tiny Talent Time asking kids to make one wish.
What would I wish for, what one thing would I use my one wish on?
Most of the ‘things’ I wished for then would already be gone, outdated, or broken.
(Except one time my wish was to have a free wish every day of my life!!!).
Jesus gives these blind men one wish, and they both ask for their sight back.
Did they ever regret their wish; seeing is great, but what if what we see is not great?
How about wishing for world peace, an end to injustice and suffering, no more tears?
These are great wishes, but if we remain selfish and sinful, we will only ruin them.
‘Change my heart, God, to want what You want’… this is a wish that really matters.
This is what I NEED God to do for me, but is it what I WANT God to do for me?
Jesus suggests a good wish, a wish that will make all of our dreams come true!
“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Perhaps the things my heart wants are not good for me, even if I really, really want them.
What would you ask for if Jesus asked you, “What do you want me to do for you?”
PRAYER
Lord, what I need, and what I want, should be the same thing, but often they’re not. Align my wants with my needs, that I may find true love, joy and peace!

    What a hope and a trust that these blind persons had in Jesus! Maybe we are distracted today because we put our hope in other things: science, technology, our medicine. The blind were totally dependent on others – to get around, to eat, to get clothing and shelter. Forgive me Lord when I strive to live independent of you – it’s when I do that I loose my way: I’m blind.

    The blind men were not really blind for they had eyes of faith. They called Him Son of David. They called upon the One who could healed them. The crowds thought of them as outcasts. The blind men saw their need of healing and forgiveness. They called out to Christ Jesus.
    I also need to see my need for Christ’s healing in my life. I daily need to seek Him, trust Him fully for His mercy. I need to put my faith in Him and grow in that faith. His will needs to be done in my life, in my living for Jesus. I need to call upon Him in all I do and say each day.

    Living for Jesus a life that is true,
    Striving to please Him in all that I do;
    Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
    This is the pathway of blessing for me.

    O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
    I give myself to Thee,
    For Thou, in Thy [redemption],*
    Didst give Thyself for me;
    I own no other Master,
    My heart shall be Thy throne,
    My life I give, henceforth to live,
    O Christ, for Thee alone.
