PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 20:24-28
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” (Matthew 20:28)
How might Jesus change a toxic work environment, or defuse a war zone?
How might Jesus overcome racial tensions, or deal with religious disagreement?
He worked with rich, poor, religious, irreligious, Roman sympathizers and Jewish zealots.
Except for one instance (turning tables in temple), Jesus normally used gentle grace.
He showed God’s mercy by serving all, healing the horrors of sin with humble love.
Jesus makes it clear that our kingdom leadership needs to be like His.
So why do so many Christians resort to worldly methods and power plays?
Yelling, protesting, condemning, demanding our rights just like everyone else.
We prefer to overturn tables than to wash the feet of our enemies.
If our presence in the world does not serve to bless, are we following Jesus?
It may seem weak, it may seem contrary to success, but THIS is the Jesus Way.
God is looking for leaders like Jesus, who lead from the bottom, not from the top!
‘For not with swords loud clashing, nor roll of stirring drums;
with deeds of love and mercy the heavenly kingdom comes.’
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for reminding me recently that grace-politics is more effective than power politics. Impress on my proud heart that there is no higher calling than joining You on Your knees.
Lord – help and enable me always to serve – and help me to avoid status seeking or praise!
Lord Jesus, help me to live like You, humbly serving others.
I too must be a servant true.
I am reminded of the passage where it states that as far as it depends upon me, I must live at peace with all mankind. Word and Deed ministry. Indeed. The words I speak and the deeds I do must show the love of God = service to my Master. I need to go forward in that power every day and that is only a possibility when He leads and guides me along the Way by His Spirit.
Make me a servant
Humble and meek
Lord let me lift up
Those who are weak
And may the prayer
Of my heart always be
Make me a servant
Make me a servant
Make me a servant today
