PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Numbers 16-18
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
βThe man the Lord chooses will be the one who is holy.β (Numbers 16:7)
In the beginning, God chose EVERYONE to be holy, to serve in His presence.
All people are meant to have God’s Spirit, and to be God’s servants in the world.
Again and again we see humans dishonouring God, and serving themselves.
This explains why our world is such a mess, and why there is so much misery and death.
These stories are meant to reinforce this important life lesson.
God sets apart priests and levites to be holy servants, to do God’s work God’s way.
The sad lesson here, and throughout the bible, is how God’s servants always mess up.
Except Jesus… Jesus alone remains holy, humble and faithful to God.
I see Jesus in a better light when I compare Him to these stories.
Jesus does not consider how to advance Himself, like the sons of Korah.
Rather He denies Himself, and chooses to serve God and people in a humble, loving way.
This is why when death takes Him (swallowed by the grave), God raises Him up.
Jesus restores the human priesthood in Himself, so that we can all be restored.
“He has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father.” (Revelation 1:6)
PRAYER
Lord, it is only because of You that I am not punished for my rebellion and failure to honour God as a humble, holy servant. Thank You for covering for me, so that I may be God’s holy servant.
In many ways, I’ve always been a reluctant leader – no striving for positions of authority/responsibility – but once in somehow my human nature does like he recognition – and my desires and self-pride get in the way. Forgive me for I feel it’s wrong – yet often I find that ‘it pokes me’ – and I have to repent of it. As believers we are all set apart – temples of the Holy Spirit – yet those in positions of leadership – have an extra responsibility not to lead those who follow the wrong way – paths of rebellion – God was tough on the rebels who were rising up against the God appointed leadership. Moses exemplified a true advocate – trying to spare the lives of the rebels. Jesus did that for me – spared me from the condemnation that was due for me!
Lord Jesus, help me to be a humble and holy servant.
