Is Gott mit uns?

Posted on January 5, 2020January 2, 2020 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 14

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“God is present in the company of the righteous.” (Psalm 14:5)
This Psalm is not about atheists, but about those who live godless lives.
To be godless is to live and act as if God doesn’t matter.
They do what they do because no one is watching, no one will stop them.
God is present with everyone, but He is not supportive of everyone.
When the Nazis said ‘God with us’ (Gott mit uns), they were right and wrong.
God was there, God was watching, but He was not supporting them.
God is WITH (supportive of) those who do what is right, good, loving, just.
God is WITH (supportive of) those who are oppressed, abused, crushed.
But God is not WITH (supportive of) those who are cruel and corrupt – even if they say He is!
Jesus shows us that God isn’t impressed by religious people who claim ‘Gott mit uns’.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)
These sound like christian atheists, people who claim to know God but do not live that way.
When God looks down on my life, is He supportive of me and my way of life?
PRAYER
Lord, show me where I am foolishly living as if God was not with me, and help me to change.

I am reminded that society is not new to corruption and godlessness. That said, I wonder what kind of Psalm David would write if he caught a glimpse of what society looked like today. God thank you for watching over me, and please help me seek after You.

Sometimes it does seem like evil is so strong – and you see powerful people who have made it and have everything – and act seemingly without impunity. But their time comes – reminds me of the parable of the rich man who has no regard for Lazarus at his gate. Justice will come. I have witnessed the power hungry and corrupt fall. Looking at it from God’s perspective – God is looking for those who understand. So in tough times and in prosperous times – help me Lord to understand – that you are in the company of the forgiven – those made righteous by Jesus and act on that forgiven by the way they live no matter the circumstances – Immanuel – God with us.

There are people who live unto themselves, doing what is right in their own eyes. These people seem to be in control ruling others for their lack of knowledge – knowing what is true. But there are also those who rely upon the Lord for He is their Refuge. They are living for Jesus and the Lord God will come to their rescue for they are serving Him.
We just celebrated Christmas – Emmanuel – God with us. I need to live in that power every day. He is my Rock and Redeemer as I live for Him this day.

    Holy Holy
    I will bow before
    My Lord and King
    Hallelujah
    You have come to us
    You make all things new

    Emmanuel
    Jesus Christ
    You’ll never let me go
    My Shepherd King
    You’re watching over me
    Emmanuel
