God’s affirmation washing over me!

Posted on October 10, 2019October 10, 2019 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 3:13-17
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

I want to try something. I wonder if some are reading my reflections first. Try listening for the Lord in the passage first, and post your own comment. My comments are not meant to shape yours, but to let you see how the Spirit spoke to me. I would like to hear how the Spirit is speaking to you through the passage!

“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)
I am imagining how it would feel to hear these words from heaven for myself.
When Adam and Eve were first created, I think they heard these words too.
When God said ‘this is very good’ (Genesis 1:31), I think they knew He meant them too.
Maybe this is what we were made to hear, and to feel, and to know!!!
The reason we don’t know it is because we feel the darkness of sin.
The fruit of rebellion brings with it the bitter aftertaste of shame.
Jesus fulfills all righteousness (Matthew 3:15)… He does what is right!
As long as we are not right (inside and out), we cannot feel this affirmation.
Unless… by grace, through Jesus, we are made righteous by faith (Romans 10:4)!
This is the good news, shown to us in Jesus, symbolized in our baptism.
Despite not being right inside and out, Jesus makes us right.
God sees us through Jesus, and says ‘you are my child, whom I love!’
Do I listen to God’s affirmation, or do I listen to the voice of shame and condemnation?
Imagine standing with Jesus in this moment; let what God says wash over you too!
PRAYER
Lord, by myself I cannot hear these words. But standing with You I can… and I do. May I take a moment today (and everyday) to stand with You in those moment and allow God’s affirmation wash over me too.

My first thought was if a voice from heaven said “This is my Son, whom I love: with him I am well pleased” didn’t everybody heard it? If so everyone would have bowed down! Why not? Perhaps only a few heard it just like today only a few hear or see God through his word, nature, Christ, the church, Christian. Or is it only a few want to hear and many choose not to ??

Fulfill all righteousness – Jesus allows John to baptise him- the baptism of repentance. I must allow Jesus to do the same for me – the baptism of redemption by his sacrifice – there is nothing more that I need to do to fulfill all righteousness – but to do all in thanksgiving – to give thanks for the righteousness he fulfilled for me! What a life – I’m free!

    One of us.
Jesus came to John like the others to be baptised. He was one of us.
As God was pleased with His Son, so we too are pleased for we are children of God. As He lived in His presence and received His power from the Father, so I too live in His presence and receive His power to live my life for Jesus.

Just as Jesus experienced the Holy Spirit pouring over Him and God saying, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well-pleased”, God says the same about me! Because of Jesus, I am a beloved daughter and God is also well-pleased in me. What an awesome feeling! What an incredible gift to have the Holy Spirit wash over me!

think about it!

Imagination was given to man to compensate for what he is not, and a sense of humor to console him for what he is.
