More than just a miracle man!

THE STORY OF JESUS: John 4:43-54
“Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe.” (John 4:48)
Jesus is challenging “you people” because of their miracle-focused faith.
To them, Jesus was a miracle man… it was all about the miracles.
I have met christians who seem to focus on the miracles all the time too.
For Jesus the miracles were not what mattered.
They served a purpose, but often they also got in the way.
People were drawn more to the perks of Jesus, than the purpose of Jesus.
Jesus did not come to perform miracles, or to serve our needs or wants.
Jesus came to rescue humanity from sin’s curse, and restore creation for us.
It was not a miracle that saved us, but Jesus selfless love and sacrifice.
It was Jesus’ living and loving for God, whether or not miracles occurred.
As Jesus followers, we work from and for love and justice and compassion.
God may bless our efforts with miracles – He often does.
But we are called to believe and follow Jesus for Who He is and what He did…
Whether or not a miracle occurs.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, help me to focus on love, and to trust that as I do, You will do the miraculous work of blessing and changing lives.

  1. Jesus had a great following and in part that following was not only to hear Him speak in parables but also to see the miracles He performed. Jesus had a show and tell ministry about God’s kingdom to bring the people into that kingdom.
The Roman official stepped out of his comfort zone coming to Jesus for a miracle. It took great faith to do as Jesus said just to go home for his son to live. His servants came and met him with the great news.
His miracles drew people to come and see and then they also heard.
The royal official came to Jesus and did what was asked. He believed.
I too need to live out His Word each day. I live in His presence and am His follower and kingdom worker. Lead me daily Lord.

Come to Jesus, He will save you,
Though your sins as crimson glow,
If you give your heart to Jesus,
He will make it white as snow.
    Refrain

Come to Jesus! Come to Jesus!
    Come to Jesus! come today!
Come to Jesus! Come to Jesus!
Come to Jesus! come, come today!

Come to Jesus do not tarry,
    Enter in at mercy’s gate,
O delay not till the morrow,
Lest Thy coming be too late.

    Refrain

    Come to Jesus, dying sinner,
    Other Savior there is none,
He will share with you His glory,
    When your pilgrimage is done.

I too need to come to Jesus and go forward in faith trusting in Jesus my Saviour.
