More people like Jesus!

Posted on June 18, 2017June 17, 2017 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Psalm 52
“Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero?” (Psalm 52:1)
In 1 Samuel 21-22, Doeg betrays David and kills the priests and citizens of Nob.
This Psalm expresses David’s confidence in God despite this horrific situation.
Love for God and people does not mean that we ignore injustice or abuse or cruelty.
Neither should we take matters into our own hands.
In the face of injustice, we put our confidence in God’s justice.
Today we still hear about bullying, abuse, rape, crime, poverty, racism, etc.
The cycle of violence and oppression continues unabated… how will it end?
“I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.” (Psalm 52:8)
God will deal with each person’ sin and shame, with both justice and mercy.
In Jesus we see God’s “mighty hero”, we can boast in Him!
Jesus is challenging me to join with Him in standing up for victims of violence.
Trusting Jesus is not just accepting His mercy, it also means sharing His mercy!
There will always be people like Doeg in the world…
But how many people like Jesus will there be?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, cruelty and injustice are still happening. I trust that You are God’s answer to these problems. Help me to trust You enough to join You in overcoming evil with good!

    Where do I place my trust?
    Many today place their trust in themselves and their ability to gather wealth at the expense of others. They are their own king of the castle. God is not their fortress but He will bring them to destruction.
    I need to be the tree planted by the waters trusting of His unfailing love forever and ever. God is good and He will provide me with the power to do good.

    God gives His people strength;
    If we believe in His way
    He’s swift to repay
    All those who bare the burden of the day;
    God gives His people strength.

    God gives His people love;
    If we but open wide our heart
    He’s sure to do His part
    He’s always the first to make a start;
    God gives His people love.

    God gives His people peace;
    When sorrow fills us to brim
    And courage grows dim
    He lays to rest our restlessness in Him.
    God gives His people peace.

think about it!

To dare is to lose one’s footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose oneself.
