Give to the poor!

Posted on December 14, 2016December 18, 2016 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Matthew 19:16-24
“Go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.” (Matthew 19:21)
Jesus had a special place in His heart for children.
How much more for poor children, and for the poor in general.
The media has often used images of starving children to motivate compassion.
But God sees the poor up close and personal all the time, and His heart breaks.
This man was wealthy, he had the luxury to spend time considering religious questions.
All around him people were struggling and starving, but he had a theological question.
So wrapped up in religion and bible study, He totally missed God’s heart.
God’s kingdom is for everyone, and everyone has an equal claim to enjoying the kingdom life.
Except those who are so greedy they refuse to share it with others, who only love themselves.
If we want to be kingdom citizens, we need to reflect the king’s heart.
Christians love to debate the words “sell your possessions” or “eye of the needle”.
Forget that, just focus on the point… “give to the poor”.
Who are the poor in your life, who needs a boost, who needs a hand up?
No more debates or doctrinal disputes, lets become orthodox – even fanatic – in compassion!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You are speaking to me. I make a living ‘talking religious stuff’, but am I making this stuff live! Enough talk, ignite my heart with Your compassion!
