‘God’s Positioning System’ (GPS)

Posted on June 14, 2016June 13, 2016 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Romans 8:5-11
“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6)
My mind is like a butterfly, it does not follow a clear flight plan.
At any given moment I am thinking about life, chocolate, a pain in my left foot, or supralapsarianism.
Interspersed are thoughts of hope and despair, joy and sadness, eagerness and surrender.
And feelings of pride, shame, jealousy, fatigue, pleasure, anger, and defeat.
But what ‘governs’ my mind, what is my mind normally ‘set on’?
Every morning I input the ‘destination’ in my mental GPS.
And God’s Positioning System (the Spirit) points me along God’s way to that place.
It does not automatically take me there, but it describes the way, and I determine to follow it.
But then I start driving; my mind is set on that path, but honestly distractions and detours come in.
Sometimes I think I see a shortcut, or I miss an exit (because I am looking elsewhere).
Then I hear the Voice of my GPS… ‘recalculating’ or ‘at the next intersection turn around’ (repent).
I don’t always like to hear that Voice, but I am thankful it keeps calling me back.
When it goes silent, that is when I need to start worrying.
At the end of the day, despite detours and dead ends and delays, the GPS is still with me.
I may not yet be where I’m supposed to be, but I’m on my way, my mind is still set.
And the GPS keeps reminding me of my destination – life, peace, hope, victory.
My mind and life may be all over the map… like a butterfly.
But I am a monarch butterfly, migrating somewhere, with the help of my internal GPS.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, in the moment I am all over the place. But the Voice of Your Spirit is guiding me ultimately in the right direction. I welcome the sound of Your Voice, Your reminds of life, love, joy, peace and hope!

think about it!

I’d do it differently if I had another chance. I’d make a positive and sustained attempt to use judicious praise rather than find fault, to warmly accept rather than critique. Most of the people I know up close need a break.
