TTTHHHRUSTTT!!!

Posted on June 13, 2016June 14, 2016 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Romans 8:1-4
“The law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)
The movie “Chicken Run” about desperate hens doomed for pot pies eager to fly the coup.
Their problem, according to their resident science geek, is they lack TTTHHHRUSTTT!
This is our problem too; in order to obey God’s laws we need spiritual thrust.
The law entices us with freedom, but we cannot escape our natural limitations.
Jesus did it, He was able to perfectly obey the ‘righteous requirements of the law’.
But how does that help me… I’m still stuck.
Jesus is our Rocky (from the movie), only better, because He is not a fake, He can really fly (the coup).
Jesus breaks free for us, then sends us His Spirit to give us the spiritual thrust we need.
When we surrender to Jesus and the Spirit, and live by confidence in Him, He helps us in our weakness.
By ourselves we are like airborne jumbo jets without engines, subject to the law of gravity.
But the Spirit gives us the thrust (help) to help us move in the right direction.
As the perfect human, Jesus obeys the Law in our place, and God counts that FOR us.
As the perfect sacrifice, Jesus dies the death penalty in our place, and God counts that FOR us.
As the perfect Son, Jesus is restored to life and receives the Spirit, and God counts that FOR us.
And with the Spirit of Jesus in us, nothing shall separate us from the love of God.
Like those helpless chickens, we will one day be totally free.
The Spirit is ttthhhrusttting us into God’s glorious freedom.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, my own track record leaves me discouraged. But knowing You, I am encouraged. Your Spirit gives my spirit hope, and strength, and thrust to keep going!

I like how you mentioned “As the perfect human, Jesus obeys the Law in our place, and God counts that FOR us.”
    Because honestly.
That is part of the struggle. I feel for me anyways. I am supposed to strive to be some perfection, never breaking the rules, never messing up, never sinning because only then would I truly be called a daughter of the mighty King.
    But that is the misconception.
Because sin is in me. It’s all around me. I breathe in it, I exhale it out. I can’t escape it. I am simply human. It doesn’t excuse the wrong doing I may do, but it definitely means I will do wrong doings! I often have to go back to the basics and remember Jesus was PERFECT. He isn’t asking us to strive to be perfect (I don’t think). But thank goodness for His grace, that He took our sin, our wrong doings upon His shoulders and shed blood on the Cross so that we could be free from the guilt of not being PERFECT. Knowing we are loved because He paid the ultimate price for us.
