Don’t reject the cornerstone!

Posted on February 22, 2016February 20, 2016 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 12:1-12
“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone!” (Mark 12:10, Psalm 118:22)
When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds sang out from Psalm 118:26.
Now Jesus throws back Psalm 118:22, where the rejected one becomes the chosen one.
“The cornerstone (or foundation stone) concept is derived from the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure.” (Wikipedia: Cornerstone)
God sent Jesus to reset the whole structure, to relay a good foundation for His creation.
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.” (Colossians 1:15-18)
Jesus is the key to salvation, restoration, life, blessing – what Psalm 118 is about.
The people were right to celebrate Jesus when He entered Jerusalem.
But celebrating Him is not enough, we must surrender to Him.
Jesus is not just an optional religious belief, He is essential to God’s purpose for creation.
In Him everything holds together, whether we believe it or accept it or not.
Without a proper cornerstone, the building becomes unstable, and will collapse.
Jesus is challenging us to reconsider His place in our lives – is He our cornerstone?
Do I realize that my response to Jesus determines my position in the whole structure of life?
Is my life set in reference to Him?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, accepting You and what You represent is not optional, it is essential. You are the way, the truth and the life. Help me to understand that there can be no LIFE without You.
