Fixing our eyes on Jesus

Posted on August 1, 2015July 6, 2015 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 12-13
“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” (Hebrews 12:1)
So much in this life can get in the way of hanging on to God’s life.
How we live now has a huge bearing on how we will live forever.
The Jesus life, the only fulfilling way to live, is often hindered by stuff in this life.
These believers were being persecuted, some were imprisoned and some were dying.
Life in their homes, in their communities, in their workplaces, etc, were complicated.
It is easy to see that they were getting discouraged, or distracted, or defeated.
The enemy doesn’t care how he brings us down, so long as he can get our eyes away from Jesus.
Refuse to be beaten, refuse to be discouraged, refuse to be distracted… hang in there!
Keep on honoring God in your circumstances, keep on loving people, keep on following Jesus.
This letter ends with some practical words of encouragement for how to keep on living for Jesus.
Renew your commitment to Jesus everyday, knowing that the race is hard, but the end is certain.
“Fixing our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:2), the finish line.
Hearing the crowds of faithful through the ages cheering you on, ‘hang in there!’
In your difficult marriage, or health situation, or workplace, or financial concerns.
Don’t let your life circumstances hinder you in your life journey.
For the joy set before you, endure your cross, scorning its shame…
And one day you will sit down at the right hand of the throne of God!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, help me to see my life in perspective. Help me to see my present battles as stepping stones to You. Help me to fix my eyes on You today again, and to push through my battles toward the victory You have won for me!
