SCRIPTURE: Revelation 5:1-14
OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
As a Christ-follower, I believe that Jesus is the ONLY WAY to restoring the universe, as well as my own life. This vision reminds me that there is no other one, and no other way, but the way of the Lamb. The scroll represents God’s plan for restoring the universe. The lion that is a lamb represents God’s way of grace, mercy, humility, servanthood, the way that evil is overcome (Romans 12:21). It appears as a way of weakness (a lamb that was slain), yet it is the way of triumph.
Being a Christ-follower is more than just accepting Jesus as my Saviour, it is accepting Him as the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE, i.e. the only true way to live in God’s world, and to follow Him in living that way. It may seem weak, it may likely lead to suffering, ridicule, self-denial, perhaps even death (like Jesus). But it is through this path of weakness that the seven-fold Spirit of God (Revelation 1:4, 3:1, 4:5, 5:6) is released, and people and the world are changed.
Am I confident, like John, even though evil seems to have the upper hand, that the way of humility, servanthood and grace are the best way to live, the only way to personal and universal victory? If so, that makes me a Christ-follower. Now I need to start living like it!
PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for this vision of the life of victory, and for the picture of the Lamb at the center, symbol of humility and victory! Help me to trust You, and to live like You, and to be willing to suffer with You, for the sake of the lost. Amen.
As we enter the Advent season, I am reminded of the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, my sin. I have been purchased for God by the Lamb’s blood. I am part of His kingdom workers to serve my God. All of God’s people need to sing praises to the One Who gives life. He will receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise. Help me Lord, to do just that this day in all that I do and say. Thank You for the life I have in Christ Jesus, my Saviour. Thank You for the gift of Your Son so that I may live eternally with You already this day. I pray that the activities of this day is worthy of praise to Your most holy name. Lead me and guide me to do just that.
