SCRIPTURE: Psalm 8:1-9
OBSERVATION:
David is overwhelmed by the greatness of God, the smallness of humanity, and the wonder that God has chosen us to rule this world for Him. David marvels that God uses the meek (children and infants) to humble the proud and mighty (foe and avenger, v.2). God is greater than everything in the universe, yet He condescends to pay attention to mere humans, and even elevates them with honour and importance.
APPLICATION:
We need to get this perspective, to see how great God is, how small we are, and yet how much God has loved and honoured us as His children. This passage speaks to both our need for humility and healthy self-esteem. We are finite beings, and we are sinners, but we are still God’s beloved children. I am not junk, I am His much-loved child! (1 John 3:1) And I (we) have a huge responsibility in this world, for His world. Do I have a healthy self-esteem before God?
PRAYER:
Lord, help me not to think to highly of myself, nor to lowly of myself, but to have a right view of You and of myself. Help me to fulfill this special honour of serving You in Your creation. Amen.
