Aug 22 — Psalm 3:1-8

Posted on August 21, 2007November 8, 2023 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 3:1-8

OBSERVATION:
There is a bigger story behind this psalm, the sad relationship between David and his son, Absalom (2 Samuel 13-19).
David shows amazing confidence in God’s help, even though it hasn’t come yet.
David speaks with violent passion against his own son (v.7, “strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked”), and yet we know that he loved him (2 Samuel 18:33).
David is not just thinking of himself, but the well-being of the people (v.8) over whom God appointed him.
His confidence is not just because ‘God loves me’, but because of God’s purpose for him as king of Israel.

APPLICATION:
When I understand the Lord’s purpose for me, I can be absolutely certain that He will preserve and use me to fulfill His purpose.
Whatever the circumstances, am I confident that the Lord will help me fulfill His purpose for me?
Do I express my confidence in the Lord while I am going through crises?

PRAYER:
Lord, You have called me to expand Your kingdom army, to multiply disciples, those who follow You! Help me to trust You like David did, no mater what. Amen.

Once again. I experienced the importance of family with the death of my mother. Having family to uphold, encourage, comfort, share is a most excellent gift. If that family becomes the weakest link and turns against you, our world crumbles as David’s world did. Yet, also in these times, no matter how isolated he felt, he recognized and knew that the Lord, our God is our protector and shield, the lifter of our head. David’s mind was stayed on God during his difficulties. As the Psalm started by a lament of his difficulties. the Psalm turned into a song of praise and deliverance. As I live this day, Lord, help me to meet the challenges in the comfort of Your care for You are always there.

Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
    Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

think about it!

Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.
