June 24 — Psalm 131

Posted on June 23, 2007November 8, 2023 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 131

OBSERVATION:
David the Psalmist alludes to the many big questions that believers struggle with (why do the innocent suffer, where is God when bad things happen, how can a good God tolerate so much evil, why do the wicked prosper, where did God come from?), but then reminds himself that he is but a child compared to God, and its better to still and quiet the soul in God’s presence, under God’s power. Either God is greater than our doubts, struggles and concerns, or there is no hope at all. No matter what happens, its always still better to hope in God.

APPLICATION:
There are no alternatives. Either there is a God, and therefore there is hope for better than things are, or there is no God and there is no hope, no purpose, no right and wrong, no universal morality… everything just is as it is, whether we like it or not. I am hopeful, and my hope rests in God, that He is bigger than all my questions and struggles and doubts. “God is big enough!” It takes constant effort to still and quiet my soul in God, but its worth it!

PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for hope, for the sense that there is purpose, a better world possible, as well as forgiveness. Help me to rest in You, as a young child in its mother’s arms. May I always sense myself In Your hands. Amen.

think about it!

Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging others, we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as ourselves.
