symphony of praise

Posted on September 9, 2008 by Norman Sennema

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 150

OBSERVATION:
A simple chorus of praise.
Praise in sanctuary (temple, place where people meet to honour God)
Praise in the heavenly sanctuary, the expanse of the skies (i.e. everywhere)
Praise for the amazing examples of His greatness and goodness in nature (sunrise, sunset, earthquakes, storms, volcanoes, oceans, gravity, laws of physics, etc.) and in life (birth, life, growth, beauty, food, work, family, love, answers to prayer, etc.). SO MUCH TO PRAISE HIM FOR!
Get the whole orchestra (every person is a part of the orchestra, each brings their own unique sound of praise), and let it all out!
Everything, including animals, should join the chorus of praise!

APPLICATION:
We have to help people praise the Lord when we gather together, to experience and to express the greatness and goodness of God. Do our gatherings help people to praise, do they keep the focus on the Lord?
Once again we are reminded that the Lord is bigger than anything and anyone. The bigger God is in our minds, the smaller our problems and struggles will be.
Do we allow everyone to voice their praise in their own way? Some will dance, some will sing, some will clap, some will shut their eyes and meditate, some with play instruments, some will sit, some will stand, some will laugh, some will weep, some will kneel, some will fall…
This is the orchestra of praise, where every instrument (i.e. each person) can make their own sound (based on who they are, how God has shaped them), and blend together into a symphony of praise.
Let everyone be included, everything that has breath can join in the praise!

PRAYER:
Lord, I feel like our praise is limited and disconnected from who you shaped us to be. Help us to liberate all ‘instruments’ to join in praising you with their own sound, together making a symphony of praise!

    The word praise is mentioned 12 times in the 6 short verses of the Psalm. Praising our God is a main ingredient of Christians. We praise Him for His dwelling among us and for His mighty power and presence in His creation. And as the orchestra has many sections of instruments, each with its own unique sound, altogther they play in harmony making a joyful noise to the Lord. So too, His people today, unique and diverse, wherever they are planted in His creation need to make a joyful noise to the Lord and it will be a sound of harmony and balance because we the people, His orchestra, are making music together. He is the Conductor. He is my All in all. I need to follow His leading. I have no other option.

    May all what I do and say this day Lord, be my song of praise. Continue to ‘conduct’ me so that those around me may see the song of this day, Praise Him, Praise Him.

    Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

    Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

    Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

think about it!

The more one knows God, the greater one desires to know Him. Knowledge is commonly the measure of love. The deeper and more extensive our knowledge, the greater is our love.
