Reflecting on Acts 1:12-26
“Lord, You know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two You have chosen…” (Acts 1:24)
The disciples had seen Jesus leave.
But still they are confident that He is present and active.
The miracle of the resurrection has emboldened them.
The mission must go on, and a twelfth is needed to it.
They use the lots (like dice, or straws) to let Jesus guide them.
This was not a complete letting go of the decision.
They did narrow down the options between Joseph and Mattias.
There was discussion and discernment about who to pick.
But when they had done their part, they gave the Lord a part.
I have only used lots when selecting leaders in church settings.
It wouldn’t be wise to use this process for most decisions.
Like should I marry, should I quit my job, should we invest in this?
The Lord has given His Spirit, wisdom, community and experience to discern.
We need to do our part, to be wise and discerning, and open to guidance.
In my experience the Lord will guide us and uses our decisions for His mission.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, help me as I discern Your will and Your way. Help me to rely on You, but not to relinquish my responsibility to You. I want to make these decisions together, with Your help and those that You have put in my life.

Decisions while serving the Lord need to be made prayerfully. we are lead by the Spirit He has given us. Trust and obey for there is no other way. When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word
What a glory He sheds on our way
While we do His good will
He abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey
Trust and obey
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey
