SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 50:1-11
OBSERVATION:
Speaking to captive Israel, God compares His letting Israel go to a divorce, necessary because of their ‘adulterous’ behavior with other lifestyles/religions (v.1)
God has the power to save His people, but they have to be willing (vv.2-3).
The messiah will be enabled to speak wisdom, and will endure abuse for God’s sake, knowing that God will vindicate him in the end (Romans 8:31-39).
A clear picture of what eventually happens to Jesus (vv.6-8).
The messiah invites people to walk to his light (wisdom), but warns them of the consequence of walking in their own light.
APPLICATION:
This shows how serious sin is, if it leads God, Who hates divorce, to describe His actions like divorce.
God is able and willing, but if I refuse God’s help, He cannot help me. Is He reaching out to me, but I am resisting Him?
Jesus (the suffering servant) comes to get my attention, call me back to God, show me the way of life/light. He is determined, despite the suffering it causes Him.
Jesus also uses the imagery of light (John 3:16-21).
Am I resisting God’s light, His wisdom, His help?
PRAYER:
Lord, I am reminded of how much You endurd for my sake, to bring me back home to God, and to the full life You created me for. Forgive me for being slow to respond, and help me to willingly step into Your light! Amen.
