Mar 14 — Psalm 19:1-14

Posted on March 14, 2007November 8, 2023 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 19:1-14

OBSERVATION:
As I read this Psalm, I imagine David out in the fields with his sheep, looking up into the vast skies surrounding him, watching the sun run its course from its rising to its seeting (vv.4-6), and marvelling at how great God is.
I also imagine him reflecting on his “tabernacle lessons”, what he has been taught as a young Jewish boy from the teachings of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy), and how God’s good will is revealed there, helping and protecting His people to live in a healthy, holy, honourable way.
David is meditating on God as He reveals Himself in the universe and in the Torah (books of Moses), and offers his relfections as a psalm of praise and love for God His Rock and Redeemer (rescuer).

APPLICATION:
Do I spend time “listening” to what God is saying to me in the world around me? Too often I am rushing so fast I don’t have time to smell the roses, or to rejoice in their Maker.
Do I find God’s message in the Bible a delight, a sweet blessing, as more precious than worldly wealth? Do I desire God’s truth more than worldly wealth? Do my actions reflect that desire?
Like David, I realize how huge my sin and guilt are, and how wonderfully patient and forgiving God is for me. There is no way I could know the extent of my secret sins, but like David I need to pray for protection and determination against willful, conscious sinful choices.
I hear the Lord gently challenging and inviting me to pay more attention to Him in His world and in His Word.

PRAYER:
Lord, You are always speaking, but I am not always listening. Please help me to listen for Your voice everywhere and all the time! Amen.

think about it!

What difference does it make to you what someone else becomes, or says, or does? You do not need to answer for others, only for yourself.
