Dec 5 — Revelation 11:1-14

Posted on December 4, 2007November 8, 2023 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 11:1-14

OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
The vision occurs during the sixth trumpet, the last stage before the final judgment. Compare this with the 6th seal, where an earthquake also occurs (Revelation 6:12), and the 6th bowl where the kings are gathered, and the earthquake occurs at the beginning of the 7th bowl (Revelation 16:17-18). All of the 7’s lead up to a final moment of judgment, introduced by an earthquake.

During these “last days”, God raises up two powerful prophets (witnesses), like Moses (water into blood, plagues, Exodus 7:17-21) and Elijah (fire devouring enemies, 2 Kings 1:10-12). They will witness powerfully and boldly, but after a period of time will be killed. People from all nations and religions will celebrate their death, but they will come back to life and be vindicated by ascending to the Lord on the throne. Everyone will realize that the prophets were right, and will be terrified.

Not sure how and when, but when the final judgment is at hand, two important prophets (like Moses and Elijah) will boldly declare God’s truth, and die for it. My job is not to figure out who those prophets are, or when they will come. My job is to witness now, like them, to boldly declare God’s grace and truth today, in anticipation of their coming and the final judgment. In some ways, these two witnesses represent all witnesses, and are the culmination of the testimony of believers, the final opportunity to repent and believe.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me not to get bogged down in the details and forget that during this time of the unfolding plan of God, my task is to boldly witness to Your grace and truth. Grant me the boldness and power of these witnesses! Amen.

The measuring rod was for measuring the temple of God which was and is established for His people. And there were two witnesses who told of God’s Word for 1260 days or 3 1/2 years or 42 months. God was with them and even after their death, God’s breath of life entered them striking fear in all who saw them. And God invited them to heaven. After the earth quake the people gave glory to God. How do I see His presence in His creative acts today?

The selection was entitled two witnesses. How do I stand up for Jesus today? As I read, God’s Spirit was upon them, for all of His witnesses. His presence is there. That was His promise when He ascended. All I need to do with the Great Commission is to trust and obey. Help me Lord to walk in Your way.

    Precious Lord, take my hand,
Lead me on, help me stand,
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn,
Through the storm, through the night,
Lead me on to the light,
    Take my hand, precious Lord,
    Lead me home,

think about it!

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory, but progress.
