OBSERVATION:
A testimony of thanks to God for rescuing David from sickness and death.
Used at the dedication of the temple as the place where they worshiped God, a call to worship.
David acknowledges that ‘sickness and health’ do not come to us by chance but are directed by His fatherly hand.
David (and his contemporaries) did not understand death (do we?), and saw it as an end to existence – and to our conscious fellowship with God.
Everyone went to the place of the dead (the pit, the grave), whether good or bad; on one level this is true, from our perspective everyone meets the same fate, physical death and the grave.
David sees his healing (and life) as for the purpose of worshiping the Lord publicly – the temple!
APPLICATION:
God may lead us through suffering, but He never leaves us there.
God does what He does in my life to get people to worship/honour Him.
Do I personally and publicly worship the Lord (declare what’s so great about God).
David does not write a theology of death but expresses his personal testimony from his limited perspective – and was inspired to do so.
Do we worship God in times of blessing and rely on Him in times of weakness and struggle?
PRAYER:
Lord, help me to look to You as David did when I am facing moments of darkness or despair. Forgive me for ‘worshiping’ my problems
Oh Lord my God, how wonderful You are. The last verse of the Psalmist states that ny heart must sing and not be silent. In our times of joy we need to sing, but also in our time of sorrow, doubt or temptation. We need to sing of the mercies of the Lord forever. It reminds me of my mother, who no longer recognizes her children, who hums hymns and psalms at the dismay of the other residents in the home. Why was my question to her? It gives me peace. It drives the evil thoughts from my mind. The joy of the Lord is my strength! He is my peace of mind!
The Lord is always with us, in our joys or sorrows. My relationship to the Lord falters when I have the downward look and not the upward look. I am always secure in the palm of His hand. As He is faithful to me, I need to be faithful to Him, Then He will be my Guardian and Guide in my journey of living for Jesus.
