PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 1 Kings 13-14
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“I have been told by the word of the Lord…” (1 Kings 13:17).
This poor prophet, tricked by another prophet into disobeying the Lord!
Rehoboam foolishly followed bad advice, but this prophet listened to a prophet!?
Both Rehoboam and this prophet learned the hard way not to listen to everyone.
As a Jesus follower, the lesson I take from this is that I need to obey Jesus.
In the end, we are responsible for our choices; we cannot blame others.
I must go with how I sense the Spirit of Jesus leading me, for better or worse.
Jesus promised his Spirit to lead and teach us (1 John 2:27, John 16:13-14).
The closer I am to Jesus, the better able I will be able to discern his will.
Spend time with him, and he will show you a path to take.
No doubt we will make mistakes, but no matter what we must choose to obey him.
As Paul says, only the Lord can judge this (1 Corinthians 4:3-5).
What is the Lord saying to you about your issue or struggle or decision?
By all means, seek advice, consider the options, but in the end you must decide!
As you do, trust in him as he guides your heart, and rest in his grace for the results.
PRAYER
Lord, whatever I choose to believe and do, I must do so out a sense of surrender to you. May the Voice of your Spirit be clear, and may I discern your guidance and grace as I choose which way to go.
Like King Saul, Jeroboam and Rehoboam both did not completely follow the instructions – the way to blessing as indicated by the prophet Abijah. As well the prophet that came to Jeroboam with the bad news about the punishment coming for his family – was almost faithful – but was misled by another old prophet – so he was punished as well. I’m thinking what about the punishment for the old prophet in tricking the younger one? But that’s a loose end – the key is obedience – being careful with the intent and the letter of the law. To be truly righteous – I need to follow the law perfectly – in that I know I’ve failed on my own – only through Jesus to I meet the righteous requirements of the law. In Jesus is my hope and my life! I need the gift of the HS to help me discern what is right and to do it.
Do what is right in the Lord’s eyes. Discern what is His way. Do His will. Have Thine own way Lord. Lead me and guide me in the Way today and always.
1 Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Thou art the potter,
I am the clay.
Mold me and make me
after thy will,
while I am waiting,
yielded and still.
2 Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Search me and try me,
Savior today!
Wash me just now, Lord,
wash me just now,
as in thy presence
humbly I bow.
3 Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Wounded and weary,
help me I pray!
Power, all power,
surely is thine!
Touch me and heal me,
Savior divine!
4 Have thine own way, Lord!
Have thine own way!
Hold o’er my being
absolute sway.
Fill with thy Spirit
till all shall see
Christ only, always,
living in me!
