Juarez in the news

Posted on February 27, 2009November 8, 2023 by Norm

With Valerie, Tim and Nathan, in Juarez, and Tim staying there for the next few months, I am especially aware of when Juarez makes the news… Pray, pray, pray! CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, Feb 26 (Reuters) – Mexico is sending up to 5,000 new troops and federal police to the country’s most violent city, where law…

facing the sacrifice

Posted on February 27, 2009February 27, 2009 by Norm

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. [Galatians 3:1] As I read through these opening chapters of Leviticus, all about the different sacrifices with which people were to come before God, I feel convicted that I need to face the sacrifice myself. I find the…

SCRIPTURE: Leviticus 5 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: 1. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance….

SCRIPTURE: Leviticus 4 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: 1. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’ [Luke 23:34] I think that we normally do not know what we are doing when we sin. If we really understood what sin was, we would not willfully do it. As I read Leviticus, I hear the heart…

SCRIPTURE: Leviticus 3 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: 1. And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is…

breaking bread with Jesus

Posted on February 24, 2009February 23, 2009 by Norm

As part of the Leviticus challenge, I am carry a slice of bread with me through the day. As I read about the grain offerings in Leviticus 2, and saw them as part of the CONSECRATION offerings (devoting oneself to the Lord), I wanted to remind myself through the day of my own consecration to the…

bread of life

SCRIPTURE: Leviticus 2 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: 1. Give us today our daily bread. [Matthew 6:11, see Proverbs 30:7-9] The symbolism of bread is important here. It represents our basic needs. Through these sacrifices we acknowledge that we do not live by bread alone, but by God’s grace and truth. We need the Lord, He is our true bread [John 6:35]. 2….

mishandling dynamite

Mohandas Gandhi (1869-1948) was sure perceptive… “You Christians look after a document containing enough dynamite to blow all civilization to pieces, turn the world upside down, and bring peace to a battle-torn planet. But you treat it as though it is nothing more than a piece of good literature.”

He doesn’t want blood

SCRIPTURE: Leviticus 1 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’ [Matthew 9:13] Jesus is faulted for eating with sinners. And yet, an underlying theme in Leviticus is on how God invites sinners to have fellowship with Him. The Tent of…

think about it!

And people who do not know the Lord ask why in the world we waste our lives as missionaries. They forget that they too are expending their lives… and when the bubble has burst they will have nothing of eternal significance to show for the years they have wasted.
