THE STORY OF JESUS: Acts 24:22-27
“(Paul) spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid.” (Acts 24:25)
Paul speaks about faith in Christ Jesus.
But the topics mentioned are righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come.
If I talk about my faith in Jesus, do I also mention these topics?
My guess is that Paul is setting the stage to share about Jesus.
He talks about how something is not right(eous) in us, we are guilty before God.
He talks about the judgment we all deserve, and can expect on the last day.
He talks about the failure of self-control to change us, how hopeless our situation is.
But before he can get to the good part about Jesus, Felix stops him… afraid.
This is unfortunate, for the message is not good news without Jesus.
Jesus is righteous for us, and removes the fear of final judgment.
Jesus restores God’s Spirit Who helps us grow in self-control.
Life is different with Jesus; we do not need to be afraid, we can have hope.
Is your faith based on fear, or are you clinging with joy to the Jesus part?

Lord, I have love, joy and peace because Your Spirit is in me, assuring me of eternal life and making me wholeheartedly willing from now on to live for You. Thank You for the Jesus part of the story!
