Both sheep and shepherd!

Posted on August 11, 2018August 10, 2018 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Ezekiel 34-36
“I myself will search for my sheep and look after them.” (Ezekiel 34:11)
Ever since humans ruined God’s ‘very good’ world, God has been at work.
Through Abraham God set up nation as a base for restoring creation.
But Abraham’s heirs did not cooperate, and they continued to sow badness.
Here God promises to step in Himself to rescue and restore His sheep.
We are God’s sheep, but we are also God’s shepherds.
We are responsible to care for God’s ‘very good’ world.
But instead we have ruled “harshly and brutally” (34:4).
God knows and feels the pain of His harshly ruled creation.
God grieves the misery experienced by His sin-cursed children.
Because we have failed, God steps in Himself… through Jesus.
“I am the good shepherd!” (John 10:11)
Jesus lays down His life for the sheep, to rescue and restore God’s creation.
As sheep we have been rescued; as shepherds we have been recommissioned.
Are we with Jesus, are we receiving AND reflecting His care in our lives?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You became a sheep like us, so that You could be our shepherd. Thank You for rescuing me as Your sheep. Thank You for restoring me as Your shepherd!

‘Hear what the Sovereign Lord says.
Again the Word of the Lord came to me.’
In all things I need to glorify His name.
I am a living epistle showing God’s love in me.
He is my God and I will praise Him.
    He is my Saviour.
    He is the peoples’ Saviour.
May all the peoples praise Him for what He has done.
May the peoples also today know that God is the Lord.
    Listen to His voice.
    Listen to the Shepherd.
    Follow Him.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

    When I feel afraid,
    Think I’ve lost my way,
Still you’re there right beside me.
    And nothing will I fear
As long as you are near.
Please be near me to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

    I will not forget
Your love for me and yet
    My heart forever is wandering.
    Jesus be my guide,
And hold me to your side,
I will love you to the end.
Nothing will I fear as long as you are near.
Please be near me to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path,
And a light unto my path.
You’re the light unto my path.

think about it!

When anger rises, think of the consequences.
