THE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 22:47-53
“But this is your hour — when darkness reigns.” (Luke 22:53)
There are many times through history when it seems darkness reigns.
In fact, it makes one wonder what it means to say ‘Jesus reigns’.
The way things look in the world, ‘evil’ is still running wild and free.
Jesus, representing God, seems to do nothing to stop evil.
Seems… but in actual fact, He does what needs to be done.
He refuses to fight evil with evil; He refuses to lead a rebellion.
Jesus battles evil with good, and God vindicates Him by raising Him up.
Evil may cause more immediate damage, but good triumphs in the end.
Goodness is more powerful than we realize, or appreciate.
We need to think about this as we see ‘evil’ swirling around us.
As we surrender to Jesus and the fruit of the Spirit, we oppose evil.
As we imitate God’s radical grace, mercy, peace and love, the darkness trembles.
As dark as things may get, one small flicker of light will break it.
With Jesus, we make this God’s hour – when goodness reigns!

PRAYER
Lord, it is so easy to despair when the darkness reigns supreme. Inspire me with Your boldness to cling to what is good, even when it seems to be a losing battle.
