The difference lies in the heart!

Posted on May 19, 2018May 18, 2018 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Jeremiah 24-25
“One basket had very good figs… the other basket had very bad figs…” (Jeremiah 24:2)
The bible often contrasts the righteous and the wicked, but is it that simple?
If we are all sinners, can anyone be righteous?
Another analogy is the humble and the proud, and this is what it comes down to.
Though we are all sinners, some are proud of it, others are ashamed.
Some desire mercy and help, while others are content to be as they are.
God knows our hearts; He sees beyond our sins to our inner inclination.
Those with open hearts will respond to Jesus; those with closed hearts will not.
Jesus represents goodness, love, mercy, justice, kindness, generosity, etc.
Jesus dies for these qualities, but is restored because of them too.
Humble hearts will be drawn to this side of Jesus, proud hearts will not.
I believe one day every person will stand before Jesus.
Their response to Jesus will determine whether they are good figs or bad figs.
It is not for me to decide who or good or bad; only God knows the heart.
But we can look within ourselves to see which way we’re leaning – humble or proud?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I am aware of how self-centered my heart remains. I am not happy about it. I may be a very bad fig, but I want to be a good one. I trust You for Your forgiveness, I look to You for Your help.

    Listen.
Do this and live, that is what the Master says.
But all too often the people listen to their own voice. This results with the Lord’s actions.
Nations rise against His people – judgement – discipline – punishment – for drifting from His Way and going after their own gods and their evil ways.
Do I see His hand at work in the happenings of the peoples today?
    The slaughter of the people.
    The land laying waste.
The self interests of the leaders of the countries.
    My self interests.
All of my actions will be brought into account one day.
    Stop. Look. Listen.
Hear His voice saying, this is the way. Walk in it.
Open my heart Lord that I hear Tour voice always.

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You, I want to see You
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You, I want to see You

    [Chorus]
To see You high and lifted up
Shinin’ in the light of Your glory
Pour out Your power and love
As we sing holy, holy, holy

think about it!

We must know before we can love. In order to know God, we must often think of Him. And when we come to love Him, we shall then also think of Him often, for our heart will be with our treasure.
