Humble theology

THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 12:18-27
“You are badly mistaken!” (Mark 12:27)
I have to admit, this story of Jesus has always confused me.
Isn’t marriage a part of God’s original creation design?
And does Jesus mean that we will become angels, no longer human?
But neither of these are Jesus’ main points; His main point is in the last verse.
The Sadducees were limiting what God could do based on their flawed thinking.
They were deciding truth based on what they saw and knew in this cursed life.
We need to be very careful with our ‘logical’ speculations and interpretations.
What Jesus says here about marriage angels may not fit with my theology.
But then my theology, not what Jesus says, is the problem.
God is greater than our systematic theologies, no matter how ‘bible-based’ they are.
Too often we speak with a certainty about our beliefs that humility cannot support.
I am NOT convinced that my reformed theology is all right.
I hold my beliefs loosely, unaware of how or where I may be “badly mistaken”.
My confidence is in Jesus, not in my beliefs; I am saved by grace, not orthodoxy.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I imagine I am badly mistaken about a lot of things. Thank You that my hope does not lie in our getting things right, but in You making me right!

The Sadducees came to Jesus with a test question – trying to make the resurrection look impossible. But then they didn’t believe in the resurrection or angels – they would only believe with what they could see with their earthly eyes. This reminds me of the passage stating that we see through a glass darkly but one day, we will see. My God lives and He is alive forevermore. And He has promised of unending life with Him – the Bible tells me so. Spirit of the living God, dwell Thou within my heart and then to I may really see for only You can open the eyes of the blind.

    Water You turned into wine
Opened the eyes of the blind
    There’s no one like you
    None like you
    Into the darkness You shine
Out of the ashes we rise
    There`s No one like you
    None like you
Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God You are higher than any other
Our God is Healer, awesome in power
    Our God, Our God
    Into the darkness you shining
Out of the ashes we Rise
    No one like you
    None like you
Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God You are higher than any other
Our God is Healer, awesome in power
    Our God, Our God
Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God You are higher than any other
Our God is Healer, awesome in power
    Our God, Our God
And if Our God is for us, then who could ever stop us?
And if our God is with us, then what can stand against?
    And if…

think about it!

A lot of church members who are singing “Standing On The Promises” are just sitting on the premises.
