THE STORY OF JESUS: Deuteronomy 9:7 – 11:32
“A land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. ” (Deuteronomy 11:11)
The promise of a better world, a better life, a life of blessing and abundance and peace and joy.
This is the promise – or blessing – that God sets before us all.
It is the picture of Genesis 1, a ‘very good’ creation in harmony with God, each other, and all things.
This is what we were made for, and this is what God is working to restore.
We are not in this place yet; the land of Canaan was just a symbol of God’s plan for all creation.
We still have yet to enter this promised life, but it is still God’s plan, God’s purpose.
Jesus came to rescue God’s stubborn children from the Enemy of life, the Deceiver.
Jesus lived the Adam life – fully loving and obeying God – and has reclaimed God’s kingdom.
He now holds this same blessing to us, and invites us to enter this promised blessing by faith.
Every day we live, we stand before both the blessing and the curse – which do we choose?
We are tempted to wander, to give in to pleasure, to forget God, to do it our way.
But as Moses reminds the people, this path always leads to misery, disappointment – the curse.
God does not curse us; He shows us the path of blessing and curse, and allows us to choose.
God wants to bless me, but He cannot bless me if I choose to walk away… what will I choose today?

PRAYER
Lord, my little choices each day lead me towards or away from Your love, Your joy, Your peace. Help me to see the connection between choices and consequences, and help me to choose well!
