Unexpected treasure!

Posted on October 27, 2016October 27, 2016 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Matthew 13:47-52
“Every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.” (Matthew 13:52)
Do you have lots of stuff buried in storage?
Sometimes we even forget what treasures we have there.
A box of dishes contains a rare Royal Doulton.
A box of toys contains a valuable 1978 ‘Luke Skywalker’ figurine.
A coin collection from your youth contains a one-of-a-kind WW2 Victory coin.
Unexpected treasure, and your whole life changes.
Maybe you have had this experience reading the bible.
You go through the motions, as you always have, but then a verse jumps at you.
God grabs your heart, and your perspective changes completely.
Or you listen to a speaker only to hear something life-changing.
As disciples in the kingdom, we are learners, explorers, discoverers.
God’s kingdom can be a perspective-altering, life-changing experience.
Like looking at a “Magic Eye” picture, and eventually seeing the mystery object.
Learning with Jesus as His disciple is like this, if we stay engaged in learning.
A disciple is not learned (one who already knows), but a learner (one who grows).
If you seek, you will find; if you are hungry, you will be satisfied.
The bible is like a stuffed storage closet, dig in and explore…
And you will find the greatest treasure of all: Jesus and His kingdom.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, the treasure of living with and like and for You may not be easy to grasp at first, but eager disciples will find it. I want to be an eager disciple in the kingdom!

With the fishing method, all kinds of fish were caught. It does not discriminate. It gathers both the good and the bad. But the catch will be separated when the fishermen come to shore. So it is with the church – which is an instrument for the gathering His people. However, the church can not discriminate between the good and the bad. The church – His kingdom – is open to all who will accept and believe that Jesus id Lord. There will come a time of separation in His time – when He comes again. But in the meantime gather them in – keep fishing – so that many more may come in and accept their Saviour.

I will make you fishers of men,
Fishers of men, fishers of men.
I will make you fishers of men,
    If you follow Me.

    If you follow Me,
    If you follow Me,
I will make you fishers of men,
    If you follow Me.

Hear Christ calling “Come unto Me
Come unto Me, Come unto Me.”
Hear Christ calling “Come unto Me
    I will give You rest.”

    “I will give you rest.
    I will give you rest.
Hear Christ calling “Come unto Me
    I will give You rest.”

think about it!

What does God ask of us? Not that we should be stronger than we are, but that we should confess our weakness and accept His strength.
