Bright eyes

THE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 11:33-36
“Your eye is the lamp of your body.” (Luke 11:34)
In what sense are my eyes the source of light or darkness in me?
What I look at, what I focus on, these determine whether I am light or dark.
If we focus on God and His kingdom, our life will be brighter.
If we seek God and His Spirit, our lives will be fuller.
If we dwell on the dark side, that will darken our own spirit.
Jesus is challenging us to take responsibility for our focus.
“See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness.” (Luke 11:35)
There is plenty of light (hope, goodness, positive thinking, kindness) out there.
But if we don’t set our eyes on it, we will end up in gloominess.
If we set our minds on things below, that is where our lives will go.
“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)
We can’t avoid the fact that there is darkness in this world, and in our lives.
But we can avoid dwelling on it, we can choose instead to focus on faith, hope and love.
Jesus represents all that is light – goodness, mercy, life, joy, truth, forgiveness.,
Let this light shine into your eyes, into your heart.
And you will glow with the light of God, so that others are brightened as well.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You are the Light of the world. I can reflect Your light. May Your face shine on me, and through me brighten the lives of those around me.

    Observations/Application
    Eyesight.
    Something most take for granted.
    The eye mentioned in the passage is the eye of the heart or window. Do I see through a glass darkly? How dirty is the window of my heart? For what I see affects all of my life. Do I have 20/20 vision or is my vision distorted? Am I prejudiced, Jealous, conceited, self-righteous? By whose principles do I live?
    I need to be filled with His Light and Truth to give me understanding, always. I must have the upward look for from Him comes all my seeing and being.
    Only then can I see clearly.
    Help me this day to walk in Your Light – Your SonShine to light my Way.

    Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me
    I am tired and I need Thy strength and power
    To guide me over my darkest hour
    For just open my eyes that I may see
    Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me

    Lead me, guide me along the way
    For if you lead me I cannot stray
    Or just open my eyes that I may see
    Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me
    I am lost if you take your hand from me
    I am blind without try light to see

    Lord just always let me Thy servant be
    Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me
    Lead me, guide me along the way
    For if you lead me I cannot stray

    Lord just open my eyes that I may see
    Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me
