Great things for me!

Posted on December 4, 2015December 3, 2015 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 1:46-56
“The Mighty One has done great things for me — holy is his name.”
A young, single girl discovers she is pregnant… with the messiah!?!?
Her life has just been radically altered forever.
Something deep within her explodes – not with rage or despair but with praise.
These words reveal that she is humbled and honoured by holy God.
She recognizes that God is fulfilling His promise to save the world, through her.
A nobody from nowhere, suddenly becomes one of history’s greatest known people.
Even as I write this, songs about her are playing on the non-Christian radio station.
But she is not rejoicing in her fame, but in what God is doing for all humbled people.
“He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.” (Luke 1:52)
This is the “great thing” God is still doing in history, lifting up the humble.
While all eyes are on the famous, the powerful, the rich, the ‘big people’…
God’s eyes are on the ‘little people’, doing great things.
In this world they may be poor, meek, mourning, hungry for justice, desperate for peace…
But in God’s eyes they’re the ones who are the blessed ones!
If you feel small, weak, desperate, lonely, unimportant, you can sing with Mary.
“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.” (Luke 1:46-48)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I pray for the ‘little people’ who feel small, weak, unloved, ignored. Expand their hearts with Your greatness, let them know that You know, You care, and You will do great things for them!

    Maybe this should be part of my disciplining. Commenting on you’re blog posts. Anywho who just some of my thoughts on Luke 1:46.

    I used to always be nominated to play Mary in every play from elementary school to high school. I don’t know why. Every time my teacher asked I always hesitated at first. “You want me to play the most probably amazing woman ever in history, who gave birth to not just a son, but the Messiah?” No pressure. I felt unworthy to play her. I still feel unworthy to this day.

    I think of the song (maybe that is the one you are relating to on the radio) Mary did you know, and I think heck no she had no idea she was going to give birth to a baby let alone the Messiah. I mean can you imagine angels coming to you and saying, guess that you are pregnant and it’s Jesus! Hooray! And what strikes me is, she was filled with praise instead of anger, and fear? Let’s get real now. If this had happened to me. I would be screaming or crying. And I don’t mean in a way of “praise”.

    So that leaves me thinking. Although I am no Mary (thank God). Mary was used for such a time by God to bring forth promises He made. That even though, I Talia ,am a nobody, God can still use me for a time such as this. Not just me, but for everyone. The small struggling church that has yet to see it grow to it’s full potential, a trying time of just trying to get things to run smoothly on a Sunday. The fear of things not working out for what is good and right. What if, no matter how small, needy, broken, hurt, lost, confused we all are. That the promises God said, and what he said is true because he does not lie, will soon come to life.

    What if we are already disciples? What if were to be filled with praise when the unexpected happens? What would our world look like? I don’t know. Seems pretty tough. Someone we love dies, and we are somehow supposed to praise Him? That’s tough. That’s where that still small voice of hope, that lives in Jesus is strong enough to hold us up. That’s how we can praise Him. Not because of the circumstances have changed, but because through that pain, He comes to our aid.

    Observations/Application
    Mary’s song. The Magnificent.
    It is a song of those who believe; a song of grace; a song of gratefulness; a song of humbleness; and a song of fulfillment.
    God used Mary to fulfill His purposes. She was filled with joy.

    What’s my song?
    God came down and also lives within me. He has given me life and life everlasting. I am not my own but a servant of the living king. I too must fulfill His purposes for me. How will I live this day and praise Him?
    Each day anew I am able to enjoy in joy
    and
    walk in His SonShine
    for He has given me life, life everlasting.
    And so today, this day, while it is yet day, I will continue to praise Him in all I do with a joyful song in my heart.

    1
    Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.
    2
    Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.
    3
    Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

think about it!

He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.
