Finishing well!

Posted on August 6, 2015July 9, 2015 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Acts 20:13-24
“My only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me.” (Acts 20:24)
Paul has a very clear sense of calling and purpose.
This is his personal mission statement:“The task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” (Acts 20:24)
Can you express your sense of calling and purpose in one sentence?
Each person will express it differently, but we ought to be able to express it.
Many years ago the Lord have me a sense of what my purpose was.
‘To have a close, personal relationship with the Lord, and to help others have the same!’
Again and again the Lord has been bringing me back to this personal mission statement.
I am not called to build churches or run programs or be a counselor or community leader.
It is both clarifying and motivating to have a clear sense of purpose.
When life becomes complicated or confusing, it becomes the bottom line we go back to.
The Spirit is compelling me to go into every day, with this agenda.
To pursue this calling “with great humility and with tears and in the midst of severe testing…” (Acts 20:19)
The enemy wants to keep me from this task, and will throw whatever he can at me to stop or sidetrack me.
The Lord is using Paul for me today, reminding me to renew my passion for my purpose.
“My only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me.” (Acts 20:24)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, my only aim… honestly I have many competing aims in my life. But I sense Your Spirit compelling me again, calling me back to Your purpose for me. I choose again today to devote myself to completing the task You have given me.

    Observations/Application
Paul describes his ministry in this passage – to preach the gospel and to teach both publicly and house to house that Jesus saves. And now he again is being SpiritLead into areas/regions doing the same not knowing of the dangers to be faced. Yet telling the Good News was his task and he must go where directed.
    And so must I.
    Being SpiritLead.
    In tune with God .
Knowing what the Lord wants me to do in my life.
What’s my mission Lord at this stage in my life.
    Daily to live for Jesus.
Share the good news to those You bring across my path.
Be a living letter read by all.
    And . . .
    Daily be SpiritLead. SpiritDriven.

    Lead on, O King eternal,
    The day of march has come;
    Henceforth in fields of conquest
Thy tents shall be our home.
    Through days of preparation
    Thy grace has made us strong;
    And now, O King eternal,
    We lift our battle song.

How am I in tune with His Voice?

think about it!

Those who, in a day of peace, set themselves at Christ’s feet to be taught by Him, may, with comfort, in a day of trouble, cast themselves at His feet to find favour with Him.

— Matthew Henry
